Beat The Traffic HD iPad App

Ten years ago, I thought MapQuest was the greatest time-saving innovation to hit the internet. No longer did you have to stop by the gas station, pull out an old treasure map, or draw out directions on napkins. All you needed to do was go online, type in where you needed to go, look up directions, print out the map and voila – instant directions. Today, in the age of iPhones, Androids, and the power of yesteryear’s computers in our hands, maps and traffic information is all accessible in seconds. Which begs the question, if we can get all our traffic information from our phones, do we need it on our iPads?

Beat The Traffic HD comes from the developers over at Triangle Software. Beat the Traffic is a route planning service and traffic info service available online at the Triangle Software official website, on an iPhone app, and also available on the iPad.

In addition to pulling in standard traffic times, delays, and traffic speeds highlighted in green/red/yellow, Beat The Traffic HD also provides detailed information on what’s causing traffic. Whether it’s local construction, an injury accident, or road closures – Beat the Traffic HD offers additional insights to help you plan out your driving routes.

All this information ultimately helps you plan out your daily routes to work or school. But whether this is a necessity for the iPad is another question.

Most recently, the folks at Triangle Software updated the Beat the Traffic ad to replace half the user interface with advertisements and upsells. Along the entire top portion of the screen, you’ll find and large banner advertisement. While all alongside the bottom is every upsell and upgrade imaginable.

For an app that provides traffic updates, the recent changes to the app add far too many interrupting features for this app to be useful. If you happen to have a iPhone, Android, or any other smartphone – just stick with your Google Maps app for traffic info. There’s just far too much clutter and distractions for the Beat the Traffic App to be worth your while.
